In the summer of 2019 I built the perfect pot, wrapped it up safely to dry, and came back to my studio the next day to find it shattered on the ground. This series of work was created with a group of friends over the next few months as I processed that loss and created new work out of it.

Five stone tablets covered in decorative slip mimicking embroidered samplers reveal and conceal quotes from some of the leaders of the American Suffragette movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
American history reveres these women for their contribution to suffrage, but ignores their attempts to subjugate black women and force them out of the movement altogether.
